Description[]
This class of four dreadnoughts again brought some improvements. The most obvious was that wing turret system was dropped completely and the fifth turret was now in the midship line, where it was less vulnerable and had a better firing arc. The second one to some extent made the first possible, as the new boiler layout with three of twelve boilers permanently oil fired, took away less space while generating more power. Plans to install a diesel engine for long range cruises had to be abandoned, as the proper engines were not ready in time and another set of turbines had to be installed instead. All ships, named after Prussian ruler titles and the crown prince, entered fleet service in 1914.
