The second batch of the GTB 1913 pattern was somewhat larger and sported a heavier armament, the 8,8cm guns were replaced by 10,5cm guns. They and the following boats that were ordered after the mobilization order from August 6, 1914, had a dramatically enlarged range that was made possible by adding additional oil bunkers and special cruising turbines, optimized for efficient performance at medium speeds and long voyages. All boats were built on the Germaniawerft shipyards in Kiel.
