These destroyers were originally ordered by the Ottoman Empire, but completed for service in the Royal Navy. They were larger than contemporary British destroyers and frequently served as flotilla leaders. Their artillery armament was somewhat stronger and featured two side-by-side mounts on the forecastle, something rarely seen on destroyer sized vessels at the time.
