SMS Pillau

Description[]

These two cruisers were ordered by the Russian Navy to be built on German shipyards. At the outbreak of the war, they were seized by the Imperial Navy. Originally, they were to be equipped with eight 13cm guns for Russian service, but were instead fitted with eight German 15cm guns. Unlike other contemporary German cruisers, they lacked an armour belt. They entered fleet service in 1914 and 1915.
