Description[]
The Cyclone class was a great advance for the French navy of its time, some twenty years ago. It had begun to dawn on the naval authorities that the preceding small torpedo vessels were too weak to be more than a nuisance for almost any opponent, so they began to develop vessels with greater speed and heavier armament. Despite being quite small, these boats at least have a better chance of surviving an encounter with an armed enemy vessel.
